How to reset an Microsoft 365 / Email account password
To reset your password, follow the steps below.
- When attempting to log in to your Cleveland County Office 365 account (Office 365 account and email account are used synonymously), click the “Forgot my password” link. You can also directly visit the Office 365 password reset website at: https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/
- On the following page, you will be asked to verify your Cleveland County email address. Follow the instructions on the page, then press “next”.
- You will then be asked to choose a verification method to confirm your identity. You will have different options available depending on what backup contact methods you have added to your Office 365 account (i.e., Phone Number, Secondary Email Address, Authenticator app, etc.) Chose an available method and follow the instructions it provides.
- After verifying your identity through your preferred method, you will automatically be prompted to create a new password of your choosing.
There are a few requirements to keep in mind when making a new password:
- Passwords must be a minimum of 8 characters.
- Passwords require three of the four following:
- Lowercase characters
- Uppercase characters
- Numbers (0-9)
- Symbols
If you attempt to self-reset your password and receive an error stating “You can't reset your own password because you haven't registered for password reset.” This typically means that a secondary verification method (i.e., Phone Number, Secondary Email Address, Authenticator app, etc.) has not previously been added to your Office 365 account. Please submit a ticket here on the Cleveland County I.T. helpdesk requesting an Office 365 password reset by an I.T. Staff member.
